All I want is a dress. A mother freakin' dress. Black preferably...but any solid color will do.
I had plans in Egypt. Big plans. Dress plans. It was going to be hot. It was going to be cheap. Goodbye Europe. Goodbye green cargo pants. Hello femininity. I was even flirting with the idea of BRUSHING MY HAIR.
Then I arrived in Cairo and the last thing I wanted to be was a female. Screw buying a dress. I wanted to look as ugly as possible. Hood on, bangs in front of eyes, stained clothes, same ugly grey hoodie and debating a unibrow. Operation Deflect Attention.
Dahab, Petra...my search continued...I was getting desperate.
This need for a dress could be difficult to understand; I'm not a girly girl but my womanliness has been stifled by wearing the same unisex clothes since September.
Ruffles? Bows? I don't care. I'm getting desperate.
And now I'm in Israel. Modern Israel. With soap and toilet paper and coffee and Jews.
And there are dresses; knit prints, sundresses, v-neck, bohemian, linen, formal, etc. etc. etc.
No lack of dresses. Now there's lack of money or, I should say, unwillingness to spend the amount of money on a dress that could potentially finance a week of accommodation. Israel is expensive.
No dress.
No hairbrush. Bank account getting smaller. Need more heat. Need beach. Need cheap. Need to stay in one place longer than a week.
Need dress.

I would LOVE to see you travelling in this getup! I'm picturing you sitting on a train or arriving at a hostel in this... dirty hair and all :) Love it.
ReplyDeleteUnibrow! Brilliant! Why didn't I think of that?
ReplyDeleteMascara to black out a front tooth would have worked well too.
Too bad I have no desire to go back there anytime soon to try these giddups out.
Good luck with the dress hunt. Loved this post.
Thanks ladies...I went searching for a dress today again...but all the shops were closed for Shabbot!
