I was teaching a lesson in one of my fifth grade classes. At one point, it was my co-teacher's turn and during her time I usually walk around to make sure everyone is paying attention. I noticed that one of the girls was staring at me. This is nothing new so I smiled comfortably as I walked towards her. She said something softly and I couldn't hear her so I leaned in. She repeated, "Teacher, you are so sexy". I said thank you sheepishly, tried to make sure my dress was covering everything and walked away.
In one of my after school classes we have a student, Harry, that is pretty hyper active. He is a headache. BUT sometimes he is so ridiculous I have a hard time keeping a straight face. At the end of each class we have the students line up at the door. One day, Harry was first in line. First, he made his presence known by flicking me off (with both hands) while sticking out his tongue. Not laughing was hard but I really could not contain myself when he pointed at my breasts and then pointed at a picture of a large melon on the fruit poster behind me. His face was so serious and he proceeded to show this to other students in the class. "Don't do that" I spit out trying not to laugh. This could have easily happened in the States but I was really amused.
Today was Teacher's Day, which is a celebration of teachers past and present. I was not expecting to get anything since I am the new teacher and most of the students can't write cards in English. Much to my surprise I received many cards, some flowers and even had one class sing "Happy Teacher's Day" to me! The cards were adorable as well as entertaining. Some excerpts:
"Marseille Teacher is so beautiful. I promise I'll do my best in your class. I love you. Bye bye."
"If you leave our school, all students are cry. I promise I'll do my best in your class. Goodbye."
"You gave me a snack. Thank you. I feel happy."
"Congratulations. Today is teacher's day. Bye. Bye. Let's meet on Friday! Come to grade eights' class. From Park J. Won"
"I hope that you make beautiful memories in our school with me. I love you. From Cindy"
"Today is Teacher's day. So I write you a letter. When I saw you first time, you gave me a good impression. I'd like to make beautiful memories in our class. Good bye. From Jack"
To end, my friend Danielle shared a peculiar story with me about her school. She is really well liked at her school but had no idea how loved she was until an interaction with one student. She was walking around when one of her girl students came up and picked something off her jacket. Danielle has really wild blond hair and just assumed the girl was trying to help pick it off her sleeve. She looked at the student and was about to say thanks when the girl took what appeared to be a strand of hair and pulled it to her chest. "Teacher Danielle, can I keep this?" Dumbfounded, Daneille said "Uh yeah, sure". The student took it back to her desk and kept it on display the rest of the class.
