It's my last night and I'm walking down the Dahab boardwalk looking for a dress.
"Mary, Mary come for a drink. You promised you come back and you not come back." I told this server my name was Mary four days ago. He calls me Mary every time I walk by.
I keep moving.
"I have many nice things. Come in. Take a look. Please. Pllleeeeaaasssee." This next vendor doesn't remember me but I bought cheap sunglasses from him on my first day.
Still sauntering....
"I give you special price on anything. Anything you want. Come. Come. I have everything. You!!! You I remember. You buy t-shirt yesterday." He wanted 200 pounds for a t-shirt. I didn't like the long sleeves; he tailored it and I haggled down to 100 poounds.
"Another ice coffee?" I'm tempted. Friends Cafe has the best ice coffee I have ever tasted.
"More baba ganoush?" Ali Baba. Fabulous appetizers. We've eaten there twice. Heavenly.
I'm not hungry though. I stay focused on my dress mission.
"Maybe some fish tonight? Very good fish. Please have a look? Don't break my heart!" Don't break my heart is a popular phrase here. I've broken many hearts walking down this street.
"Where are you from? United States? Ohhhh Mr. Obama. Good." I like this reaction. Much nicer than the backlash I received from 2001 to 2008.
"What team do you play for? Captain, can I join your team? Please captain, choose me. ah hahaha." I guess this is a reference to my Adidas shorts? Either way, I tell him yes, he can be on my team.
Anyone in Dahab can be on my team. Not finding a dress tonight was the only time Dahab disappointed me.
We have had a mutually beneficially relationship. I've contributed to it's economy and it revived me after my experience in Cairo.
Dehab-Thank you and Goodbye.
