Hometown Update

The farthest I've traveled in the past two weeks from my hometown of Athens is to Meigs County to go four-wheeling with my dad.

Hometown update:

I'm doing some temp work at a local office...so I have a schedule. It feels funny...I try to make sure my feet don't smell and my tattoo is covered. One of my duties (he he duties) is to conduct phone interviews. This provides entertainment (double negatives and sour attitudes galore) but also serves as a reminder that I was born in Appalachia and the economic crisis is hitting rural families hard.

I saved a turtle today on Rte 550. It was in the center of the right lane so cars could easily avoid hitting it...I wondered how long it had been in the road before I came to it's rescue. I thought about the turtle in the Grapes of Wrath. Unsure of which side of the road to put it on, I chose the right and resolved to thinking that even if it was going the other way, at least I did the best I could.

I'm learning how to play the harmonica. I suck. Which says a lot considering it's a harmonica.

I've decided that I will no longer buy clothes that are new (EXCEPTION: undergarments). My reasons are environmentally and socially conscientious as well as economically motivated. My first challenge was finding something for my friend's upcoming nuptials in Columbus. After searching three different thrift stores, I discovered a skirt (under a horrendous blue sweater) that had a wonderful print. Yesterday, I dusted off my old sewing machine and tailored it into a gorgeous dress. The skirt cost two dollars.

My last admission is one that I am hesitant to share; I began reading the Twilight series two weeks ago exactly. I finished Breaking Dawn on Friday...and yes...I loved all of them.

  1. Good call on the new undergarmets! Can't wait to see your new dress at the wedding!
