ER

I had shooting pain in my stomach for about three hours before I gave in and went to the emergency room last night. I didn't know if it was anything serious but I was startled when the doctor gave me an MRI, EKG, chest x-ray and a urinalysis after a very short pre-exam. I cursed thinking how much it would all cost. My coteacher was there to translate and when I asked him how much it would be he said, "very expensive." In too much pain to care, I shifted every which way to relieve the pain. My stomach was raging but with the added Korean stares and painful non-Dixie cup urinalysis my uncomfortable level was at an all time high. Wincing as my coteacher asked about my "woman's time of the month" and the possibility of me being pregnant, I tried to think of any reason my stomach would be waging war. I hadn't ate or drank anything out of the ordinary. In the end, absolutely nothing was found. I was still in the same amount of pain when the nurse took out my IV but the meds the doc gave me provided relief later on. Also, I found out that a "very expensive" ER visit in Korea costs 80,000 Won. Roughly 58 dollars!

  1. I saw your brother in NYC a couple weeks ago with Becky. He mentioned that you were in Korea and that I should read your blog. We both like the "Self absorbed? Definitely." tagline or whatever you call it. Get healthy and keep writing. Look forward to seeing more posts. -Will Bain

  2. Thanks Will. I hope all is well with you! I am pretty sure someone has a voo doo doll this week because I woke up this morning with intense pain in my upper back!

  3. Did you ever find out why you were in so much pain? I can't believe that all of those test only cost the equivalent to 58 dollars. Wow!

  4. The cause of pain is still unclear. I am sticking to the voo doo doll theory.
